From Tivat Airport to Budva

Pre-booked transfer — our pick. A private car booked before you fly costs from about €40 to Budva, only a little more than the rank price, and takes the whole arrival off your plate: the driver is in the hall with your name on a board, the price was fixed when you booked, and if your flight is late they know. Book it for the day you land, give them your hotel address, and you’re at the door in half an hour. It’s the obvious choice at night, with children, with a lot of luggage, or simply if you’d rather not haggle after a flight.

Taxi from the rank. Walk out of arrivals and the official rank is right there. The fare to Budva is €25–45 depending on the season and where in Budva you’re going, for a 25–35 minute drive — allow 45 in a July or August afternoon. Use a marked car with plates ending in TX and agree the total in euros before you set off; there’s a tariff board at the rank, but drivers quote their own price. Ignore anyone offering a ride inside the terminal.

Rental car. The rental desks are in the terminal and the coast road to Budva is easy driving. Expect from about €25 a day in spring and autumn to €50–80 a day in August, and book before you fly — the airport desks sell out in high season and walk-up prices are the worst of the year. Worth it if you plan to explore beyond the bus lines; parking in Budva itself is the catch.

Coast coach. There’s no bus stop at the terminal. The nearest is Tivat bus station, about a 20-minute walk, or you can walk a few hundred metres out to the Jadranska magistrala and flag a coach heading towards Budva. Tickets are €3–6 plus €1–2 per bag and the coaches run from about 05:00 to 22:00; allow 50–75 minutes door to door with the walk and the wait. You arrive at Budva’s main bus station, ten minutes’ walk from the Old Town — from there the Mediteran Express local bus takes you on to Bečići, Sveti Stefan or Petrovac.

From Budva to Tivat Airport

The same transfer services pick you up at your accommodation at a fixed time and price, which takes the guesswork out of an early flight — book it the day before and the car is outside when you come down with the bags. A taxi from any rank in Budva, or one called by your accommodation, is the same €25–45 range. Either way, leave 45 minutes in summer, more from Bečići or Sveti Stefan. Tivat’s terminal is small and quick: 90 minutes before a European flight is plenty.

If you rented a car, most companies let you drop it at the terminal desk or the airport car park — check the return instructions when you book, and allow 20 minutes for the paperwork. The coach is the cheapest way out: from Budva bus station take any coach towards Tivat or Kotor “via Tivat”, get off at Tivat bus station, then walk 20 minutes or take a short taxi to the terminal. Only sensible with light luggage and time in hand.

Renting a car at Tivat Airport

Tivat has around forty rental counters between the terminal and the car parks, from the international names to Montenegrin firms that are often cheaper and just as reliable. Prices swing hard with the season — from about €25 a day in May or October to €50–80 in August — so the two rules are book before you fly and read the deposit and insurance terms. A small car is the right size for the coast road and Budva’s tight streets, and the Bay of Kotor, Lovćen and Skadar Lake are all easy day drives from Budva.

Which should you pick?

Book a transfer if you want to know the price and be met — that’s most people, and it’s our recommendation. Take a taxi if you land in daylight and don’t mind agreeing a fare at the rank. Rent a car if you plan to explore beyond the bus lines. Take the coach if you’re travelling light, in no hurry, and would rather spend the €30 on dinner.

Tivat or Podgorica?
